Art alert! The expressive quality of 3D scans is clear—they lend a ghostly quality to the people and objects they capture. If you’re a longtime reader of the blog, you’ll know that ScanLAB Projects makes particularly innovative use of this aesthetic, but they’re not the only ones.
Recently, digital artist Shirin Anlen used 3D scans to strong, melancholy effect for a WebVR documentary. The experience places you in the middle of Tzina Deizengoff square, a famous location in Tel Aviv. You are free to move around the square, which is populated by 3D-captured interviews with the square’s regular visitors.
As Anlen describes it, “this webVR project touches on issues of loneliness, love and longing. The stories are intertwined with the creator’s personal story of loss and recuperation, alluding to the melancholic reminiscence of past love and this urban architecture, soon to be obsolete.”
