In an increasingly competitive and demanding environment, four dimensions matter for AEC companies: time, cost, accuracy, and quality — and drones answer those four! They are more than affordable and have much to offer in terms of better/faster construction surveying and site monitoring.

In this course, we present how to produce, visualize, and analyze geo-referenced outputs – 2D orthophotos, 3D point clouds, elevation maps, contour maps, and 3D mesh models – and how to integrate those within a collaborative workflow to facilitate planning and as-built verification.

Case studies from world’s leading companies are presented during this 3-hour presentation. We explain how aerial photogrammetry, drone and manned-aircraft based imagery was used to improve project feasibility and bidding, and better track and communicate construction progress. We will also discuss challenges faced and the effective solutions that can be implemented.

The first two hours are dedicated to drones: why and how to incorporate drone data into your workflows. We explain you the techniques of efficient and automated drone mapping to create repeated survey-grade 2D and 3D models for:

– Pre-construction site topography

– Stockpiles measurements and cut & fill volume calculations

– Earthworks tracking

– As-built monitoring

– Project documentation

– Inspections

The last hour introduces you to the next generation of surveying equipment for automatic data collection: a crane-mounted camera system. It uses the same principles as drone mapping except data is collected automatically on a daily basis with no restriction and no human intervention at all. We demo the solution and show how it is used for daily site progress monitoring and as-built documentation.
