3D Spatial Data Acquisition Technology Fusion in the VFX Entertainment Industry. Application Spotlight: HBO’s Hit Series Game of Thrones
Visual effects have played an important role in film and television production since the early 1900’s. Historically, visual effects were limited to shooting outdoor scenes, using rear projection techniques, which offered producers limited opportunities while filming in 1- and 2-D. As the entertainment industry evolves, 3D imaging technology such as LIDAR is helping producers go beyond the limits of conventional digital cinema cameras to deliver unprecedented levels of detail to their audience.
Part one of this session will illustrate how the latest 3D laser scanning modalities, combined with high resolution photogrammetry, created some of the best visual effects in the industry, on the latest and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Get a sneak peek into the techniques Geo3D is using to create some of the best visual effects in the industry for one of the world’s most popular television series.
In part two of this session, Geo3D’s Managing Director, Zlatan Novak will share the modelling techniques used to capture remarkable, high resolution 3D models of famous UNESCO world heritage sites in Dubrovnik and Sibenik (Croatia). Learn how the fusion of several LIDAR imaging methods including: terrestrial and airborne LIDAR scanning, photogrammetry, georeferencing, and software can help you deliver added value to your customers.
