New & Interesting Applications of 3D Technologies

The intersection of 360 Video, Project Management, and BIM

We will be discussing the implementation of a series of workflows that leverages consumer grade 360 cameras and advanced photo/video mapping software on jobsites to help drive BIM and project management initiatives within XL construction. We will explore the use of 360 video for the quick capture of jobsite imagery at a scale and speed not previously available in the industry by leveraging AI technologies. The alignment of 360 imagery with coordinated BIM models in order to achieve greater accessibility by non-technical staff will be discussed, along with the technology?s use in tracking of installed components, such as drywall installation, for the calculation of percent complete for various schedule activities. We will then explore cost and time savings associated with virtual site walks for schedule updates, Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings, and direct creation of RFI?s, observations, and others directly with 360 views that will sync bi-directionaly with a project management system, which would normally have required a physical jobsite visit or additional coordination with on-site staff to properly document. We will conclude with an overview of the use of 360 camera technology throughout the lifecycle of projects, from pre-construction to construction to owner handover via non-proprietary deliverables.
