Dean is a Senior Analyst on Safe Software’s Application Experts team. He is responsible for helping customers and partners design and prototype their applications based on the FME's spatial data integration platform within the appropriate desktop, server and cloud environments. Focus areas include UAVs, web services, open standards, SDI, indoor mapping, complex data structures, coordinate systems, 3D, raster and point clouds including scientific, environmental and disaster management applications. Project implementations, prototypes and demos have been developed related to EU INSPIRE, FEMA DFIRM, FAA AIXM, OGC interoperability Testbeds, to name a few. Dean also provides advanced architecture support, and has published papers and presented on spatial data integration topics at numerous geospatial conferences around the world. Dean has more than 20 years of experience in Geographic Information Systems and spatial data applications. His early work included development of an ocean mapping and imaging system for Western Subsea that integrated GPS position, ROV, video and side-scan sonar with vector bathymetry. During six years as a senior consultant with Facet Decision Systems, Dean worked with community and utility planners to develop strategic planning, land use development impact evaluation, sustainability and visualization applications. Dean served as technical lead and senior model developer on a range of projects, including county general plan models, utility hydroelectric network optimization, and transmission line siting models. Dean has also taught Geographic Information Systems at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. In his spare time Dean volunteers with RCMSAR – Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue.
