Jared Heinly Jared attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Ph.D. in Computer Vision. His thesis focused on large-scale 3D reconstruction from images, with advisors Jan-Michael Frahm and Enrique Dunn. While at UNC, Jared developed a reconstruction system that processed and reconstructed scenes from a 100 million image dataset within 6 days. This was accomplished using only a single computer— two orders of magnitude in improvement over previously published methods. Jared has also developed state-of-the-art techniques for disambiguating repetitive, duplicate, or otherwise confusing scene elements in a 3D reconstruction. He is also working on image description, retrieval, and registration, as well as real-time computer vision on mobile devices and GPUs.
