Kara Bartelt is a sustainably focused & technologically minded professional with a broad – research to practice – understanding of the building industry and its diverse stakeholders. Kara has 20+ years of executive experience in real estate, architecture, project management, facilities, planning & design development. Kara has a long history of process and change management and is currently Director of Operations at The Hoxton in Los Angeles. Previous recent roles include the Director of Facilities &Operations at the Ace/Atelier and as a Facilities Operations Associate at Caltech. Before joining Caltech, Kara was a professor at the University of Southern California where her teaching and research centered on the integration of technology in building design and operations. She was the recipient of a U.S. Department of State grand for research using virtual reality software in collaboration with Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. In her private practice, Lettuce Office, Kara worked with Occidental College on the strategic plan, design installation of a 1.2 MW award-winning solar array integrated with the urban campus’ landscape. Kara received a Masters of Architecture from Yale University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Art and Design from the architecture department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
