The International Lidar Mapping Forum (ILMF) has been a showcase of the latest airborne, terrestrial, and underwater lidar for nearly two decades and this year will celebrate 20 years of lidar at the 2020 version of the event, taking place March 23-25 in Washington D.C. The growth and popularity of the event speaks to the need that professionals involved in utility asset management, transportation, urban modeling, coastal zone mapping, and more have when it comes to learning about the latest remote-sensing and data collection tools that can be integrated into their workflows.
However, the innovation that has come to define ILMF is just part of a much bigger geospatial ecosystem. It’s an ecosystem that features the scientists and education that the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) has cultivated for nearly a century. This geospatial ecosystem also features MAPPS, which is the only national association of firms in the surveying, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States. Each of these communities provided geospatial professionals with distinct but separate value propositions.
Geo Week was created to pull all of these communities and all of this value together in one place. Attendees can get a year of geospatial business in one week, as the event features its own unique conference programming along with a single exhibit hall and inclusive networking activities. It’s impossible to overstate how much comes together and happens during this one week, but that amount of activity has caused many in the community to express an interest in continuing those conversations or staying up to date about the innovations they learned about beyond the event. That desire has led to the creation of Geo Week News, which is designed to be a hub for the geospatial insights, innovations and conversations that flow into and out of the Geo Week event.
