On May 10 Leica Geosystems announced availability of the ScanStation, successor to the HDS3000. The ScanStation features the one-second, dual-axis tilt compensator found in Leica’s total station line, and is aimed squarely at surveyors using traditional traverse and resection workflows. Current HDS3000 scanners can be retrofitted with the dual-axis compensator too. Meanwhile Leica’s Cyclone 5.5 software has been enhanced to support traverse and resection workflows, enabling field registration and field geo-referencing of scan data captured with the new ScanStation.
Cyclone 5.5, scheduled to ship later this quarter, also features faster loading of large point-cloud data sets – up to 4x faster or even more, according to Geoff Jacobs, senior vice president, strategic marketing. The company also reports CloudWorx will benefit from the performance improvements.
A new Pipe Modeling module has also been introduced to allow piping components such as elbows, nozzles, flanges, tees, valves and the like to be selected from standard catalog elements. The elements can be placed in the Cyclone model, and exported to piping and CAD applications as PCF objects or surface geometry.
