Trimble Rolls Out FX Phase-Based Laser Scanner

Yesterday at Dimensions 2007, Trimble‘s annual user conference now underway in Las Vegas, we saw the formal announcement of the new Trimble FX Scanner, a phase-based device OEMed from Basis Software, Inc. Previewed at the INTERGEO show in September, the FX rounds out Trimble’s laser scanner offerings with an instrument targeted at industrial, shipbuilding and offshore markets. The FX has 360deg x 270deg FOV, data capture rates exceeding 175,000 points/sec, and spatial resolution of 1mm at 28m. Used with the Trimble FX Controller software, the FX Scanner lets users create either low- or high-resolution datasets. Data can be used in raw format directly with the Trimble LASERGen software suite, or imported into RealWorks Survey software or 3DIPSOS modeling software. The FX can be mounted on several different kinds of support including tripods, brackets, columns, decking and ceiling joists. Trimble says the scanner will be available this quarter – we understand it was only six weeks from contracting with the OEM supplier to having the FX integrated into the Trimble product line under Mark Klusza, manager of engineering responsible for hardware and software integration for the company’s process, power and plant solutions. Trimble tells us list price is $95,000.
