Trip Report – Trimble/MENSI User Conference

Trip Report – Trimble-MENSI User Conference - Image 1

Last week I attended the 3rd DiMENSIon 2004, Trimble’s conference for its laser scanning customers. Many of you will recall that Trimble purchased laser scanner manufacturer MENSI from parent Electricité de
France  just over a year ago. Here’s a summary of what I found.

Management update

Jürgen Kliem, Vice President, Survey & Infrastructure Business Area, ranking executive for Trimble’s laser scanning business, reported in his keynote address that the company’s operation in Paris will remain the
competence center for this technology. Xin Chen, who served as MENSI’s CTO, will be responsible for quality management and product management at the Paris headquarters. Manufacturing, research and
development, and customer support operations will stay in Paris. Kliem says that going forward, customers should expect more integration of the company’s laser scanning technology with other survey applications such as GPS and total stations.

Laser scanning marketing will be headquartered in Westminster, Colorado, and will be headed up by segment manager Peter Large. Portfolio manager Omar Soubra will relocate to the Colorado offices
early in 2005. Sales is organized by geography.
