New Z+F IMAGER 5016 Weighs Much Less, Scans Twice as Far

One piece of news that we missed at Intergeo last week is the release of a new Zoller + Fröhlich terrestrial LiDAR scanner, the Z+F IMAGER 5016.

The new scanner includes all the features of the top-of-the line 5010 series, like an integrated high-definition camera. It will also include functionality for the indoor and outdoor positioning system that Z+F debuted at SPAR 2016. This system enables users to perform targetless registration in the field as they go, even when scanning without GPS coverage.

As for updates, the IMAGER 5016 improves the specs of the 5010 series significantly. The camera now includes integrated LED lighting, to enable better image capture in dark areas.

It weighs 5.6 kg (12 lbs), where the 5010 weighs 9.8kg (21 lbs). It is also 30% smaller, measuring at 328 x 258 x 150 mm (12.9 x 10 x 6 inches).

IMAGER 5016 is built to be easier to use. It features a new ergonomic design that makes setup easier with high tripods and overhead mounting. Z+F says it is small and light enough for use in very small spaces, and usable in carry-on luggage.

Perhaps most importantly, the IMAGER 5016 improves on the range of its predecessor. The new scanner boasts a maximum distance of 360 m (1,180 feet), where the models in the 5010 range scan 187.3 m (600 feet).

Z+F says that the combination of a smaller body, lighter weight, better design, and longer range will open up a range of new possibilities.
