Arvizio launches hybrid rendering AR solution for lidar, BIM and CAD models backed by edge computing

Arvizio, provider of mixed reality 3D visualization software, has announced new capabilities to their platforms that will allow for the streaming of complex 3D models and lidar scans to participants on mobile augmented reality (AR) devices. The updates to the enterprise XR Platform are backed by GPU-accelerated hybrid rendering that is optimized for the immense filesizes used in BIM, CAD 3D models and lidar scans.

Point clouds and large 3D models in particular can present challenges due to the high number of points or polygons that must be rendered, well beyond the CPU and GPU limits of mobile devices. Through a combination of dynamic level of detail processing and GPU accelerated rendering, Arvizio is able to stream industrial scale models to mobile devices and tablets as well as augmented reality headsets. The anticipation of 5G networks and more edge-based computing adds the potential for even more increased bandwidth and low latency required for a new level of on-site multi-user XR experiences.

In addition to the powerful streaming and rendering capabilities, Arvizio XR allows for multiple objects to be placed in a scene. For example, buildings and machinery may be positioned within a point cloud and visualized as a combined experience.

The Arvizio XR Platform is designed to be broadly compatible – capable of importing over thirty spatial data formats, including design/modeling tools, lidar point clouds, and photogrammetry models. The XR Platform also offers the ability to integrate with Autodesk BIM 360, allowing models to be imported and visualized in augmented reality on location.

There’s obvious advantages to being able to bring these massive models outside of the construction trailer and office. Project stakeholders can participate in collaborative “shared” AR sessions where participants are able to vizualize in 3D. Arvizio’s Immerse app for mobile AR provides interactive capabilities to take full advantage of those remote viewings – including real-world alignment at scale, and the ability to “teleport” into the design for a virtual walk through.

In addition, the Arvizio XR platform is operated in a standalone, edge or cloud-based environment. Arvizio’s hybrid rendering solution can be deployed on a laptop, edge computing server or cloud-based server allowing 3D visualization in situations where Internet connectivity may be limited.
